24 hour Strike at Antwerp Port Causes Major Delays

The ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Ghent were faced with congestion Monday as port workers stage a 24-hour strike. According to sources, there was a backlog of 65 ships outside Antwerp waiting at anchorage to enter the port, while 12 were waiting to leave – although numbers differed from different sources. The port workers picketed entry roads, preventing staff from getting in. More strikes are expected in Belgium, with a national general strike scheduled for December 15.
