Beijing to build new airport at a cost of US$13.1 billion

China’s central government has approved plans for a new international airport in Beijing at a cost of US$13.1 billion. It will enable the city to handle 72 million more passengers each year as well as two million metric tons of cargo and will be located 46 kilometres south of the city. When it opens in 2018, it will have 150 parking aprons for passenger jets, 24 parking aprons for cargo aircraft, 14 maintenance areas and a terminal building with a floor area of 700,000 square metres.
